Appearance:

Origin story: Claire Elizabeth Belacqua was born to [REDACTED] after an ill-advised night with [REDACTED] led to an unexpected pregnancy. At least, Claire thinks that's true - her mother never really shared much with her about her father. Before her mother was aware that she was pregnant, she was continuing to [REDACTED]. At some point that her mother was never able to pinpoint, [REDACTED]. Thankfully, nothing harmful happened to her. [REDACTED] mutation that led to Claire's ability to control air and wind.

From a very young age, Claire was a little different from the kids in her daycare and kindergarten, detesting certain textures and having "tantrums" that seemed more like complete emotional meltdowns than manipulative attempts to get her way, among many other, more easily overlooked differences, all of which were rather drowned out by the fact that Claire kept creating WIND. Her mother took her to some specialists and (after a year or so of trying to find ones that would actually LISTEN to what she was describing and not just throwing out what they felt was more common) Claire was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Her mother looked into the accommodations that the schools in the area could provide, found them wanting, and began homeschooling Claire when she started 1st grade.

Growing up in and around [REDACTED] was honestly a wonderful childhood. Her mother took pains to provide what Claire needed, treated her like an intelligent, functional human being with different limits, and never once discouraged her from her dreams or goals "because of your autism". They moved a lot, and sometimes had to [REDACTED], but as long as she had her computer and her mom, Claire didn't really mind. It helped probably that Claire wasn't the best at making friends, and didn't really know how to socialize comfortably offline with people she didn't know

Claire's real passion was superheroes of all sorts - comics, cartoons, books, biographies, fandom... she was all over all of it. When she was little, she watched a cartoon that had a character who could control wind like she could, and came RACING to her mother to tell her very excitedly that she was an windmolder. That was how she identified herself for the longest time, until she was 13 and finally got to read a series of novels and stories called The Afterhumans. It was a darker series, set in modern times, and people with powers were classified by "band color" depending on their powers. Claire's own powers of aerokinesis made her a "red band", for elemental control, and she latched on to this just as hard as she'd latched on to the identity of "windmolder". Moreso, because it was more applicable to her life. She began a habit of always wearing red, preferring red anything over any other color.

And then, not long before her 16th birthday, [REDACTED] and after she turned 16, Claire left for LA. The trip was not a completely un-eventful, Claire had a meltdown in a bus station just outside of San Francisco, but eventually she made it to LA, went to the lobby of Alpha Force Tower, and declared to the receptionist that her name was Gale, she was an aerokinetic, and she wanted to join the Trailblazers.

Personality:

Claire isn't exactly what you'd call "average" - she's often like a member of fandom who hasn't realized that she shouldn't be a fangirl offline. She is deeply enthusiastic about her favorite books/movies/etc, and she'll take any opportunity to talk about them. But for all that some people might look a bit askance at her enthusiasm and empathy for fictional people, she doesn't see it as "weird". She is aware that most people aren't as involved as she is, at least not away from the internet, but her upbringing afforded her enough shelter and perspective to not view her differences as a negative, just as a difference between her and most people.

That doesn't mean she's never uncomfortable with her differences. She's a very friendly person and she likes to make friends, but she's not really sure how "making friends" works, other than just spending time together and talking about shared interests. Her difficulty in this tends to make her nervous and sad. She wants to do it right, even though she knows that "right" isn't really a thing, and she wishes she understood better, so she could make friends quicker and easier.

She's a very intelligent young woman, and very curious on top of that. She loves to learn about things, about what the people around her are interested in, about-- well, pretty much anything. She's also a little naive, and takes things a little too literally sometimes. That's a mixture of her rather secluded upbringing and her autism, though really more the former than the latter. She doesn't really parse why asking some kinds of "impolite" questions might be rude, but she does her best, and she means well, and that's generally pretty apparent.

Claire tends to get attached to people who are friendly to her very quickly, both online and off. Part of this is a response to her difficulties in socializing and making friends - when someone expresses any interest, that means a lot to her, and she will latch on to that and try to encourage it to grow, even if she's not quite sure how. But part of it is just how she is: quick to trust and quick to love.

But for all that she's quick to trust people, she is extremely secretive about large portions of her own history. Where she's from, how she got here, where her powers originated, where her parents are, if she's even from this universe at all, what her childhood was like... she'll say enough to know that she was home-schooled, had a single mother, and grew up a happy child, but much beyond that is not forthcoming. She has her secrets, and her reasons for keeping them, and she will keep them firmly until she decides it's safe to reveal them.

Differences from canon: n/a
